Background and Objectives
Xi’an Jiaotong – Liverpool University, a young entrepreneurial Joint Venture University within Suzhou China, is currently developing a new campus and teaching site in Taicang, a county level city within Suzhou. Named the XJTLU Entrepreneur College, it is being developed with the collaboration of the Taicang Municipal Government, as well as key industry partners, as part of the university’s strategic priorities for the next ten years.

The intention is that the Taicang site will be a pioneer of, and educational model for, the future campus, in developing talents and leaders to meet local, national, and global challenges from the 4th Industrial Revolution.

In 2016, the university proposed a new university and educational model to develop talents for our future society, talents full of innovation and entrepreneurial ideas who could respond to the challenges which will be, and already are, brought about by AI and robotics as a result of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Known as Syntegrative Education (SE), it is a core part of the university’s strategy for the next ten-year development that stresses innovation and entrepreneurship. SE aims at training syntegrative leaders with Management skills, International perspective, Discipline-specific knowledge, and adaptability in Industry (MIDI).

Syntegrative Education has three operational modes:

• Certificate in Industry and Enterprise Tailored Education – based on the existing Suzhou Industrial Park campus
• XJTLU Entrepreneur College (Taicang) – the new industry innovation campus
• Innovation and Entrepreneurial Community – the wider business and social community.

The Entrepreneur College has developed 7 industry-themed schools in alliance with founding industry partners. In addition, the college has been developed to encompass a number of educational platforms with each school cutting across each platform. These are:

LM&DRC: Learning Mall and Digital Resource Centre
IF: Innovation Factory
R2DC Research and Research and Development Community
SIPQAP Standard, Intellectual Property, Quality and Accreditation Platform
EEH Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Hub
AI&S Alliance of Industry and Society
